‘The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle’ Tour announced & New Single Unashamed Desire Released Today!

Much loved Aussie songstress Missy Higgins finally returns to music today with both her brand new single – ‘Unashamed Desire’ – and the announcement of ‘The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle Tour’ for June and July. This will be Missy’s first national tour in since 2007. Tickets go on sale to members of Missy’s database on April 30 and to the general public on May 2.

‘Unashamed Desire’ is Missy’s first new release in over five years. It follows her private decision to quit music despite selling over a million copies of her first two albums, ‘The Sound of White’ and ‘On A Clear Night’, loads of critical acclaim, multiple ARIA Awards and gold certification in the U.S. for her song “Where I Stood”. The story of the journey that brought her back to music forms the backbone of her new album ‘The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle’ which will land on June 1. You can view the video here!

The clip for ‘Unashamed Desire’ is also out today, and features Missy suspended in the air by dancers in a powerful combination of music, theatre and art. The video was directed by the ARIA Award winning Natasha Pincus.

Tickets for the ‘The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle Tour’ go on sale Wednesday May 2. Special guest on all shows will be fellow Aussie singer songwriter Butterfly Boucher who co-produced Missy’s album with the Nashville based Brad Jones.

Missy has just been in the U.S. as special guest of Gotye. Last week – on the day his single “Somebody That I Used To Know” topped the U.S. charts – Missy joined Gotye on stage in San Francisco to perform Kimbra’s vocal part (Kimbra being in Europe to promote her album). The pair also teamed up again for a sold out show in Los Angeles the following night.

“I was so nervous to have to sing that song,” said Missy. “It was fun though and a real honour. I was already really excited to be playing some new songs for the first time at that show so getting to sing with Wally on that day of all days made a good night even better.”

OFFICIAL 2012 LINEUP ANNOUNCEMENT

Greetings music lovers! After weeks of speculation, the time has finally come.

In 2012 SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS embarks on a new chapter in the life of Australia’s favourite winter festival. Back home at Byron Bay, from July 27 to 29 Splendour will once again transform Belongil Fields into the ultimate playground for music and arts enthusiasts.

Splendour returns to Byron Bay with 3 full days of knockout talent from around the globe! And while the site will feel familiar to many, it will also include all the bells and whistles from 2011.

“The show has grown over the past few years with the addition of an extra day. We have a bunch more bands on the lineup and new venues like The Forum, the Very Small Mall and Day Spa etcetera plus we’ve got some surprises in store this year. It will definitely be the best Splendour ever staged in Byron Bay” said Splendour co-producers Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco.

In 2012 Splendour will host its most eclectic gathering of artists to date. Over three mammoth days, punters will pick and choose from a lineup that showcases a host of “White” hot international acts – from brand new to massively respected and innovative trailblazers – alongside many of Australia’s finest artists and festival favourites.

The twelfth SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS event will also include all of the event’s most loved festival features…

The GLOBAL VILLAGE is so Byron Bay! It’s back with all the performances, workshops, markets stalls and global food fair that everyone loves.

It just wouldn’t be Splendour without the TIPI FOREST and as all seasoned Splendour punters know, venture here and be prepared to lose all track of time!

Need to brush up your festival fashion? Check out the VERY SMALL MALL and while you’re at it you might want to book a treatment at the SPLENDOUR DAY SPA to be looking your splendiferous best when you meet your mates at the COCKTAIL BAR. Here you’ll find a different club each night including Melbourne’s Survivor, Sydney’s Good God, Brisbane’s Cobra Kai and Byron Bay’s own Sunday Safari.

The SPLENDID ARTS PROGRAM will once again present a series of dynamic and interactive artworks. Keep on the lookout for artists and their work as it emerges across the site throughout the weekend.

As Splendour is a bigger show than it was when last staged at Belongil Fields, this year there will be noCAMPING on site but hey, it’s okay. A beautiful, beachside campground will be set up off-site at NORTH BEACH CAMPGROUND on Bayshore Drive, Byron Bay. It’s within easy walking distance of the festival or you can catch one of the free shuttle buses. You’ll find more information about camping atsplendourinthegrass.com.

Over the years, SPLENDOUR and its army of committed enviro-savvy punters have offset thousands of tonnes of carbon via carbon-offset tickets and on site recycling programs. Now, time to cut to the chase, SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS is proud as punch to present you with the artists who will grace the Supertop, Mix Up Stage and GW McLennan Tent this year….

New album artwork & latest Making Of Album video

Hello friends,

Here’s a sneak peek at Missy’s new album artwork for ‘The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle’.

The artwork is by Melbourne artist, Kate Tucker, who earlier this month was selected as a finalist in one of Australia’s most prestigious art prizes, The Archibald Prize, also with a painting of Missy.
Check out more of Kate’s incredible work here www.katetucker.com.au

“Kate is an extraordinary artist, I’m a huge fan of her work and when we met through a mutual friend we clicked straight away,” Missy says. “With the album art she’s managed to capture the essence of this album so completely and wonderfully. To me it portrays not only the darker, creative and more introspective side of me but also the ‘performance’ persona, (or the ‘razzle dazzle’) and how these two worlds merge.”

We hope you love the album artwork as much as we do! And check out the second instalment of making ‘The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle’ video below. Enjoy!

NEW WEBSITE & HELLO FROM MISSY

Hello everyone!

It’s hard for me (and probably you) to believe it, but after a ridiculously long time I’m releasing a third album.

I’m sure you’ll hear more of the story over the next few months: what I’ve been up to, why it’s taken me so long etc. but I wanted to drop you a short note first, not least of all to thank you for waiting so bloody long!

A lot has happened over the last few years, I actually thought I’d quit music for a while there, but of course my heart found that I couldn’t beat without it. I eventually recorded this album in Nashville, Tennessee, with fellow Aussie Butterfly Boucher and Nashville producer/engineer Brad Jones and as you’ll no doubt hear, we had a lot of fun being creative in the studio. That was our only vision, really: to be totally free and to have fun.

As for the songs, everything I have experienced over the last few years: the ups, the downs, the uncertainty, the questioning and all the lessons learnt have made it on to this album. There are a few songs that touch on struggling to juggle the ‘performer’ side of things with the personal, and how that led to feeling as though I had metaphorical rock stuck in my throat for a long time; there is a song about my beautiful grandma, a song of frustration at the world’s leaders, songs about an electric kind of love, heartache, desire, and the journey back to my estranged, yet only true love: music. The parody of the ‘entertainer’ is explored on many tracks, thus the album is called The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle. It’s a bit tongue in cheek, you could say.

Anyway, I guess it took walking away to realise how truly grateful I am for everything, to refill the creative well, and hopefully make my most creative album yet.

Thank you all, truly, for all your support and encouragement over the years, I promise it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Fingers crossed I see you at a show some time soon.. (if you’re in San Fran or LA I’m supporting Goyte on April 18th and 19th respectively, come along!! For everyone else, dates will be announced soon, I promise).

Lots of love,
Missy xx
