MISSY JOINS LIVE EARTH

Missy was on hand at the event’s official launch today at Aussie Stadium to announce she will be performing as part of the Australian Live Earth concert.

She will join the newly reformed Crowded House as well as Wolfmother, Paul Kelly, John Butler Trio and a host of other awesome local and international performers for the concert on 7/7/07. The event at Aussie Stadium in Sydney will be the first of seven Live Earth concerts held over 24 hours across the globe.

Tickets for the show go on sale Friday, May 18 at 9.00am EST.

The global concert will begin in Sydney and continue across all 7 continents, concluding with a show in the US.

Speaking via a video link-up at the event’s launch today, Live Earth Partner Al Gore said: “The climate crisis is a global problem that requires a global response. That’s exactly what Live Earth is. On 7/7/07, Live Earth will touch over 2 billion people with 24 hours of live music across 7 continents and an urgent, hopeful message to trigger a worldwide movement to combat the climate crisis. This movement begins here at Aussie Stadium.”

Missy is midway through her carbon neutral “On A Clear Night Tour” she explains, “We’re doing this by powering all the venues with Green Power and offsetting all the flights, road transport and freight emissions by purchasing Gold Standard premium quality carbon credits. “This is going to be a life-long commitment for me. I think if climate control hasn’t become a personal issue for everyone, then some of us need to wake up!”

Missy also revealed today “I don’t own a car, I ride my bike everywhere or catch public transport”. In the past whenever we’ve needed to hire a car on tour, I’ve requested environmentally friendly vehicles where possible”.

The 50,000 tickets will be printed on recycled paper and will include a free public transport travel pass. For further information head to www.liveearthmsn.com

MISSY ALBUM A ‘CLEAR’ CHART TOPPER

The latest album from Missy Higgins – “On A Clear Night” – entered the Australian charts at #1 today.

The disc has attracted four star reviews from most music critics and is already certified platinum for sales of over 70,000 copies. It features the single “Steer” which also topped the charts a few weeks ago.

Critics have been raving with quotes such as –
“…..a worthy and impressive successor to her debut” Rolling Stone
“A truly musical superstar with an amazing new album..” Mixdown Magazine
“Fans won over by the 23 year old’s ‘The Sound of White’ will doubtlessly fall in love with Higgins a second time around.” Drum Media

“All you can do is try to make an album that you’re really proud of. So whatever happens after that at least you know you did your best”, explains Missy. “Now that it’s released and people are obviously really liking it, it feels awesome! To have something that’s so close to your heart be received so well is just such a good feeling”

“On A Clear Night” is the follow up to Missy’s phenomenally successful debut album, “The Sound Of White” which swept the 2005 ARIA Awards. MISSY STEERS BACK TO RADIO

Missy Higgins will finally return to the airwaves from 8am this Friday (Eastern Summer Time) when her new song “Steer” premieres on Australian radio. It will also be posted on Missy’s official site and on her myspace page.

In just one extraordinary album Missy Higgins carved out a distinctive public profile…proudly Australian, passionate and sincere.

The lead track from her new four song, “Steer EP”, retains all of these hallmarks but it also introduces a newfound positivity to her unmistakable sound. It’s a strong and uplifting piece that was inspired by Missy’s journey over the last few years; winning JJJ Unearthed, playing hundreds of gigs around the world, scooping the ARIA’s and having one of the most successful CDs in Australian music history.

“A lot of the songs on the last album were written from fairly dark places but “Steer” is really the opposite of that”, explains Missy. “It was inspired by a realisation I had one night on the beach, looking up at this amazingly clear sky above me. It dawned on me how small we are, how short life is and how ridiculous it therefore is to spend any of it feeling compromised or unfulfilled. I felt so liberated to have finally figured that out and the song “Steer” just kind of fell out of that moment.”

“Steer” is the first taste of Missy’s eagerly anticipated new album “On A Clear Night”. Both were recorded in L.A. with producer Mitchell Froom (Crowded House, Elvis Costello, Finn Brothers, Ron Sexsmith).

The “Steer EP” also features 3 other new original Missy Higgins compositions that won’t be on the album. Two of the tunes “The Battle” and “Dusty Road” were part of the Mitchell Froom sessions while the other “Leave A Note” is an unforgettable home demo.

The “Steer EP” will be released in Australia on April 14.

“On A Clear Night” will be released on April 28.

Missy Steers Towards New Album

Missy Higgins kept a very low public profile in 2006 but that doesnt mean she hasnt been keeping busy.

In fact with her typical lack of fuss and fanfare the former JJJ Unearthed winner spent the second half of last year in Los Angeles recording a brand new album. The highly anticipated release is currently scheduled for the end of April in Australia.

The as yet untitled disc was recorded with acclaimed producer Mitchell Froom who helmed the recent Finn Brothers CD and the first 3 Crowded House albums plus discs for such acclamied singer-songwriters as Ron Sexsmith, Elvis Costello and Suzanne Vega.

The first song to be lifted from these sessions will be “Steer” – a positive and life affirming song which Missy previewed live during the US and UK touring she did in mid – 2006. The track will premiere online and on Australian radio/tv in early March . It will be released on CD single to coincide with Missy’s appearance on several major festivals over the Easter weekend and her album will follow at the end of April.

Missy’s debut CD, “The Sound Of White”, remains in the Australian top 40 over two years after its release. The album is now certified 9 times platinum and is one of the highest selling Australian albums of all the time.

In other Missy news, she recently joined Paul Kelly and Glen from Augie March in adding vocals to a Kev Carmody song called “Droving Man” which Paul put together. That album will be released shortly.
