MISSY HIGGINS RETURNS HOME TO MAKE ACTING DEBUT

Missy Higgins will get straight off the tour bus in America and head back to Australia to make her acting debut in a new Australian film – the feature film adaptation of cult musical Brand New Dae.

Director Rachel Perkins (Radiance) will bring this magical Australian musical to the screen. Set in the summer of 1967 Missy will play the character of Annie alongside Academy Award winner Geoffrey Rush as Father Benedictus, Ernie Dingo as Tadpole & Dan Sultan as Lester in this road movie, coming of age comedy musical which celebrates the adventure of finding home.

Brand New Dae was originally a stage musical created by Jimmy Chi and the collective musical talents of many Broome musicians.

Filming begins in Broome later this week with Missy joining the set in early November. Missy’s return to Broome holds special significance as much of her #1 album On A Clear Night was inspired by Broome and it’s surroundings.

“Broome holds a special place in my heart so this opportunity felt like something I just couldn’t pass up on. I fell in love with all the characters when I read the script, ecspecially my character (Annie) who is a hilarious hippie. Being my first go at acting I’m a bit terrified but I feel very honoured to be working alongside such an incredible cast and crew and I know it’s gonna be a lot of fun.”

Missy Higgins has spent much of 2008 based in America touring on the back of her album being released there in February. Her breakthrough single “Where I Stood” has been used on many prime time shows including Grey’s Anatomy, Brothers & Sisters, Smallville, Lipstick Jungle & So You Think You Can Dance, she has also appeared on the Late Show with Jay Leno and Jimmy Kimmel Live. The song has sold well over 100,000 copies on iTunes in recent months.
