A big year for Missy Higgins gets even bigger this week with the release of an eagerly anticipated new single, and the digital unveiling of her first new album in six years – The Second Act.
“A Complicated Truth” has generated intense fan reactions every time Missy previewed the heartbreaking ballad during her sold-out national tour over recent months. As the beloved singer/songwriter explains:
“I was driving around one day with my five year old daughter in the back of the car, not long after her dad and I had split up, and she started asking a heap of questions all of a sudden like “why can’t daddy live in our house anymore?” and “how can you just stop being married if you made promises to each other?”. As you can imagine it felt like a dagger in my heart. I just didn’t know what to tell her. So later that night I decided to try and answer her questions in a song. Maybe one day when she listens to it she might understand things a bit better”
In a tour overflowing with rave reviews, critics have repeatedly singled out this evocative song for special mention. For example:

Appropriately the song is accompanied by a striking video filmed during one of Missy’s five memorable nights at Melbourne’s iconic Palais Theatre.
The release of “A Complicated Truth” coincides with the digital unveiling of her new album The Second Act which will be released on September 6. The Second Actwas written and co-produced by Missy and, appropriately for such an intimate piece of work, she recorded it at home. An evocative and highly thematic batch of songs about trying to build a new life, it has been described as a “kind of sequel” to Missy’s trailblazing debut The Sound Of White – hence the bookending of these two albums on Missy’s hugely successful “Second Act Tour” which has sold out nearly 40 shows across Australia.
