Missy Higgins was inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame during the 2024 ARIA Awards in partnership with YouTube last night.

20 years to the day after her first album hit #1, Missy Higgins has topped the ARIA charts again with her new album ‘The Second Act’. LISTEN HERE
Described as “a kind of sequel” to her trailblazing debut ‘The Sound Of White’, Missy spent most of 2024 previewing these emotive new songs 40 times across Australia in an unusual two act show. Each night, fans were able to pre-order LP’s and CD’s of ‘The Second Act’ and those people laid the foundations for today’s #1 debut.
“I owe my career to the audiences who have come and seen me play live”, said Missy. “In the early days, when I was supporting lots of other artists, I usually signed CDs at the merch booth after my set. Lots of the same people I met way back then came to one of this year’s gigs – some of them even brought their kids – so this tour brought things full circle in all sorts of ways. The crowd support has sustained me through a very difficult period so I’m sincerely grateful to everyone who has embraced The Second Act – it means more than you can imagine.”
Six “Encore Shows” on The Second Act Tourwere recently announced for November/December including one at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl (with special guests Dan Sultan and Mia Wray) which sold out today, nearly 3 months in advance. This 10,000-capacity event, presented by Frontier Touring, will be Missy’s biggest headlining concert since 2005 and follows five sold out nights at the Palais Theatre in Melbourne over winter. The support of the Victorian Government’s ALWAYS LIVEprogram allowed fans to buy Myer Music Bowl tickets at lower prices than the rest of the Encore dates as well as helping Missy fund a ‘per head’ donation to the music industry charity, Support Act.
December’s Sydney Opera House Forecourt “Encore Show” also sold out today – it will be the first headline appearance by Missy at that iconic venue. ‘The Second Act’ is Missy Higgins’ fourth album to top the ARIA charts, joining 2004’s ‘The Sound Of White’, ‘On A Clear Night’ in 2007, and ‘The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle’ in 2012. (2014’s ‘Oz’, 2018’s ‘Solastagia’ and the 2022 mini-album ‘Total Control’ all reached #3). This intensely personal collection of new songs, recorded by Missy in her home, has received glowing praise from critics. Beat called it “raw, emotional and soothing”. The Australian said, “her vocals have never been stronger”. AFR noted “… the relatability of its emotional terrain – heartache, growth, resilience” while the ABC hailed ‘The Second Act’ as “one of the most quietly profound, nuanced break-up albums you’ll ever hear.”
According to chart guru Gavin Ryan, today’s chart debut sees Missy Higgins become only the seventh Australian artist in history to have enjoyed #1 albums in at least three consecutive decades. After more than six years, Missy Higgins finally releases her fifth studio album today – aptly titled The Second Act. The deeply confessional and emotive set has been described as “a kind of sequel” to her ARIA Award winning debut The Sound Of White so it’s appropriate that this new album is landing 20 years to the day after her classic debut.
To coincide with this release Missy has unveiled her music video for an upbeat, tongue-in-cheek new song called “Craters” which can be viewed here.
In response to fan demand, she has also finally made her tour merch range available online for 72 hours. During this strictly limited window each order of a collectable tour item will receive a download of The Second Act.
Songs from Missy’s eagerly anticipated new album have already been previewed at 40 sold out shows across Australia, drawing unanimous rave reviews. Missy has explained that her new songs pick up on a lot of the same themes that she was exploring when she first started writing songs – “who am I and who do want to be?” – hence the tour’s unusual structure where new material was juxtaposed with a performance of her entire debut album across two distinct, but linked, acts.
Last week Missy announced six encore shows for The Second Act Tour during Nov/Dec at iconic outdoor venues: The Sydney Opera House Forecourt, Kings Park in Perth, Melbourne’s Myer Music Bowl and three special winery performances presented by ‘a day on the green’. The shows will take total attendances for this tour past 100,000 Australians, capping an extraordinary year for Missy which will include her November induction into the ARIA Hall Of Fame. Special guests on these final encore dates include good friends Dan Sultan, Kate Miller-Heidke and Elana Stone.

The Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) is thrilled to reveal Melbourne singer-songwriter Missy Higgins will be inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame during the 2024 ARIA Awards in partnership with YouTube on Wednesday, 20 November.
The esteemed accolade will be awarded to the nine-time ARIA Award winner at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion, on Gadigal land, celebrating Missy’s legendary career and major influence on Australian music.
Since releasing her debut album The Sound of White in 2004 – a 12-time platinum triumph which spent a total of seven weeks at the top of the ARIA Albums Chart – Missy has gone on to become one of the highest selling singer-songwriters of our era, creating some of Australia’s most loved and recognised songs.
The quiet determination with which she has always marched to her own beat has seen her cited as a formative influence by two generations of Australian singer songwriters, from Kate Miller-Heidke, Clare Bowditch and Amy Shark to Angie McMahon, Gordi and Gretta Ray.
Missy’s follow up album, 2007’s On A Clear Night, was equally adored by the nation. Winning another ARIA Award and shooting straight to the number one spot on the ARIA Albums Chart, 2012’s The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle did the same. Oz (2014) and Solastalgia (2018) both made it into the top three of the Albums Chart, as did Missy’s 2022 mini-album of songs from ABC TV’s acclaimed series Total Control. Across the past two decades, all these releases have generated an extraordinary 25 ARIA Award nominations.

Influenced by a vast range of genres growing up, from R&B and soul to alternative rock, pop, jazz and more; Missy’s career began when her older sister Nicola famously entered her in Triple J’s Unearthed without Missy’s knowledge. The song was All For Believing: originally only written for a school music assignment. It went on to win the competition and kick-started this singular career.

The ARIA Awards will broadcast from Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion live on Wednesday, 20 November from 5.00pm AEDT, only on Stan. The live stream will be followed by a special presentation on Channel 9 with performances and moments also available on the @ARIA.official YouTube channel.
