RICE SURPRISE

People attending Damian Rice’s sold out Sydney show last night got a surprise when Missy Higgins made an unannounced appearance as his opening act. She told the crowd she was a “huge fan” of the acclaimed Irish singer/songwriter and that it was “a dream come true” to share a stage with him.

In addition to playing a short set of her own Missy also joined Damian onstage for his encore, performing “Volcano” and a memorable version of “When Doves Cry”. The show ended with Missy and Damian both sculling glasses of red wine and toasting the cheering crowd.

TOPPERMOST OF POPPERMOST

“Scar” won the Award for “Best Pop Release” at last night’s ARIA’s in Sydney. The song beat a heavyweight field that included fellow nominees Pete Murray, Kylie Minogue, The Dissociatives and Delta Goodrem.

The achievement was made all the more extraordinary by the fact that ARIA Award voting happened shortly after “Scar” was released and closed before “The Sound Of White” came out. Missy is therefore ineligible in any of the album categories until next year.

Missy performed a stripped back version of “Scar” with Josh Cunningham on this year’s show. She thanked her cat and dog (among others) in her acceptance speech. She also thanked all the people who liked her music for making the last few months such an amazing journey for her.
