New single ‘Carry You’ out now: missyhiggins.lnk.to/CarryYou

I hadn’t seen Upright before Tim asked me if I wanted to record a song for it, but I was a big fan of Tim’s work so I knew it would be good. When he played me ‘Carry You’ on the piano I instantly felt how beautiful and universal it was and how I might make it my own.

Sarah Belkner (who plays keyboard for both of us) did an incredible job of wrapping it in some classy, understated production, and I love how it turned out in the studio with her.

After I watched the series (which blew me away, it was so good) I finally understood how multi-dimensional the song is and it made me love it even more. When I sang it in the studio, I felt the ache of regret and the longing for connection through the lyrics, which is something any of us can relate to I think.

I’m so happy to be a part of this project, it’s Aussie TV at its absolute best.

Watch ‘Total Control’ on ABC TV for original Missy music!

I am so excited to finally announce that the TV show I have been writing music for the last few months has launched on the ABC!
 
It’s called Total Control, directed by Rachel Perkins starring Deborah Mailman and Rachel Griffiths. It’s about a fiercely brilliant Aboriginal woman (Deb Mailman) who makes her way into Parliament via invitation from the Prime Minister (Rach Griffiths) and really shakes things up. I’ve had a total ball writing and recording new and original songs for each episode and I hope you love it as much as I do.

‘The Sound of White’ turns 15 today

I cannot believe it but it has been fifteen years since I released ‘The Sound of White’! Then again, it feels like another lifetime ago that I wrote and recorded those songs, the first of which I wrote when I was fifteen years old myself.

So, on this special day, I wanted to write and tell you what you all mean to me. It’s been a gigantic personal journey for me over the last fifteen years. I’ve made so many mistakes, I’ve broken apart along every seam, been put back together by the things I least expected. I’ve felt connections with audiences so strongly that my entire body felt electrified and boundary-less and I’ve wanted to cry from happiness. I’ve ridden the wave of what it feels like to be in your twenties and learning un-pretty things about yourself every day, I’ve taken risks, I’ve been careful, I’ve crawled away from the light and come running back to it.

And all through that, you’ve been there. Without you I’m a lone voice singing to a bedroom wall. At the risk of sounding like Jerry McGuire, you complete the story, every time. So thank you isn’t enough but here it is anyway: Thank you! Thank you!

Missy Higgins & the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra announcement

Hey everyone!

A few years ago I got asked to do a show with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra in this incredible outdoor location called Skyfields in the forest outside Devonport. I’ve always loved playing outdoors as well as with orchestras, both seem to somehow elevate my music to a new level. It was an amazing experience. The songs came alive in unexpected ways when we introduced all the other instruments.


I can’t wait to do it again, this time at Wrest Point Lawns in Hobart on Sat 15 Feb next year. Missy Higgins live in Perth announcement

Hey everyone! Back in February I had a career-first when I was forced to cancel my slot at the Coming Home Tour show in Perth with John Butler because I was sick as a dog. At the time I was so proud of never having cancelled a gig, so I felt awful in so many ways when I had to bite the bullet.
 
The good news is that I’m coming good on my promise to make it up to you with a special one-off gig on Sat 1 Feb at Kings Park & Botanic Garden. This time I’m bringing along MEG MAC as well as Didirri, two incredible artists that I’m so excited to see live.
